JAMIE KWONG
Jamie founded Workshop on January 23, 2003, however unbeknown to him he started preparing for that day many years before.
In 1985 at the age of 18 he landed his first job in advertising as a despatch clerk. He quickly worked his way out of despatch, through media and into account service. Four years after running the mail room he was a Senior Account Manager in London helping run some of McCann-Erickson’s biggest accounts.
He returned to Sydney in 1991 to take up an Account Director position at McWasp and later a Senior Account Director role with Foster Nunn Loveder.
In 1994 Jamie switched to the other side to learn more about the creative process. He proved to be a fast learner and in seven years went on to win over 50 local and international awards, worked for Fallon, New York (regarded as one of the greatest creative agencies in the world), guest lectured at the Miami Ad School and New York School of Visual Arts on the art of ‘concepting’, and became a Senior Creative Vice President at FCB New York.
Jamie returned to Sydney at the end of 2001 after the September 11 attacks. He took a year off to spend with his wife and kids in the safety of their Northern beaches home and wrote a business plan that, 14 months later, became Workshop Australia.
In 2003 Jamie set out to build the type of company that he had always wanted to work for. A company founded on creativity, integrity, balance and respect. There are currently 13 other people that want to work for that company.
And although Workshop is now somewhat bigger than in the early years, Jamie is still dedicated to delivering the strongest creative work with the highest level of service. As a result, he is actively involved in the business and our creative and strategic product working closely with Alira our MD, and Belinda, our Strategic Planner.
